The Domaine de Villeneuve is situated at the extreme north of the appellation and one of its main advantages is to have three different terroirs : the famous "rolled” pebbles which are typical of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and which retain the heat of the sun during the day and restore it to the plants at night ; gravelly soils and sandy soils mixed with clays and limestone.
Our Vineyard : Age helps to gain in both force and complexity. Deliberately maintaining old vines is both a sacrifice for the quantity and an investment in quality. Our Domaine consists mainly of vines that are more than 40 years old (50%) and one part more than 90 years old. At this "respectable” age, yield is limited to about 10 hectolitres per hectare.
For many years now, we have worked both in the vines and in the cellar according to bio dynamie principles which give a superb dynamism both from the point of view of the health of the plants and the quality of the final product.
Our vine stock is made up of 75% Grenache, 8% Syrah (since 1992), 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault and Clairette for the remaining 2%.
The vineyard has an area of 9 hectares which allows us to give constant and precise care to the vines : very frequent ploughing so the earth can breathe, de-budding, green harvest on certain plots.
