Telmo Rodriguez Toro Pago La Jara 2005

Telmo Rodriguez Toro Pago La Jara 750ML 2005
Sku: 57011051

Telmo Rodriguez is widely recognized as one of Spain's most talented and prolific winemakers. A proud student and proponent of Spain's viticultural history, he is leading a revival that focuses on planting indigenous varietals and rediscovering forgotten regions of superior terroir. Telmo studied viticulture and oenology at the University of Bordeaux and was the winemaker at Remelluri, his family winery in Rioja, before setting off on his own in 1990. He spends most of his time and efforts in the vineyards he trellises his vines using the traditional bush method and only uses massale selections to replant. Telmo understands that most people will be introduced to him through his baseline cuvees, therefore he puts as much attention into his everyday wines as he does his rare and limited bottlings.

Tasting notes
This wine is unbelievable, extremely seductive and seamless despite its strength and structure.

92 Points ~ Wine Advcoate "2005 Pago La Jara spent 18 months in new French oak. It reveals a super-expressive aromatic array of toasty new oak, smoke, lavender, spice box, blackberry, and black cherry. A behemoth on the palate, this still tightly wound wine shows off a big mouthful of ripe, savory fruit, big tannins, exceptional density, and a decade of aging potential."

Technical notes
From ungrafted vines in Toro, that Telmo was among the first to bring global attention to a decade ago. The key to Toro is to achieve balance given the high temperatures, and Telmo works in the Southern, coolest area of the region with very old bush vines of local Tempranillo planted on the distinctive red soils of the area.
