Vizcarra Ribera del Duero Roble 2009

Vizcarra Ribera del Duero Roble 750ML 2009
Sku: 83100091

Bodegas Vizcarra was founded in 1991 by winemaker Juan Carlos Vizcarra. His father, Jose Manuel Vizcarra Aguado was among the pioneers in vineyard plantings in Ribera del Duero. Sixty-four acres of organically farmed vineyards are located in the towns of Mambrilla Castrejon and Roa de Duero, in Ribera del Duero. The continental climate provides a long, slow ripening period resulting in wines that are darker, concentrated and aromatic. Soil composition is clay and limestone topsoil and gravel subsoil. In 2007, the winery opened a new gravityfed winemaking facility. All the wines are racked without pumping and bottled by gravity. This gentle treatment prevents harsh tannins and instead produces soft, complex and elegant wines.

Tasting notes
Dark ruby with fresh aromas of dark spicy fruits with oak spice and vanilla bean in the background. It is soft and sweet with a palate of ripe cassis fruit, oak, tobacco and leather.

Rating
90 Points ~ Wine Advocate "The2009 Roble was aged for 7 months in seasoned French and American oak. Purple-colored, it gives up a first-class perfume of mineral, Asian spices, violets, and lightly roasted black fruits. This is followed by a succulent, full-flavored, voluminous wine with excellent balance and a long, fruit-filled finish. It is an outstanding value that over-delivers in a big way as well as a sneak preview of just how good the top wines from Ribera del Duero will be when released 2-3 years from now."

Technical notes
The berries are hand-picked, destemmed and gently crushed. Maceration lasts 12-15 days during and after fermentation in stainless steel. The wine aged for 9 months in neutral French and American oak barrels. Relatively short aging in neutral barrels allows the wine to oxygenate and become softer and rounder allowing the wine to retain its fresh, youthful fruit characters.
